5 Best Spring 2020 Family Activities in St. George

For St. George locals, spring is king.

We're lucky enough to see high temperatures in late winter and early spring -- way earlier than most!

This early spring means big outdoor fun and an endless supply of local activities for all ages.

I've collected a list of some of my favorite unique springtime local St. George activities for families (some of which I hadn't even heard of until recently!).

1. GLITTER MOUNTAIN, AZ

It's a dirt mound, but trust me -- it's WAY cooler than it sounds...

This mound is littered with gypsum deposits that make it glitter in the sun like a disco ball, which is one of the more unique natural phenomenons you'll ever see. There's also a pit filled with a larger deposit of gypsum that visitors can look into.

The best part? If you find a loose gypsum deposit, you can take it home!

Glitter Mountain is one of those unforgettable experiences easily enjoyed by all ages.

DISTANCE FROM ST. GEORGE: 13 miles

LOCATION: Old Gypsum Crystal Mine, Littlefield, AZ 86432 (Also known as Old Gypsum Mine or Sparkle Mountain)

MORE INFO: Glitter Mountain Information from HikeStGeorge.com

LOCAL TIP: Visit Little Black Mountain Petroglyphs while in the area

2. ST. GEORGE FISHING DERBY

No fishing gear? No problem!

This fishing event for kids 12 and under is free; and if you don't have any fishing gear, they'll loan you some at no cost.

The organizers of this event want all kids to have the opportunity to enjoy the simple joy of fishing. Bring some chairs and a picnic lunch to make it fun for the whole family!

The details for the 2020 event haven't been released yet, but likely will be soon. Click here for 2019's event details to get an idea of what to expect.

3. TUACAHN AMPHITHEATER

Tuacahn's musicals don't start until late May, but they have a loaded schedule of family-friendly spring concerts and performers.

In 2020, Tuacahn's spring lineup includes:

  • Brian Regan

  • The Magic of Queen

  • STYX

  • Joan Jett

  • Air Supply

  • Bill Engvall

  • Elton John's Classic Hits

  • Professional Bull Riders

  • And more!

4. DIXIE POWER KITE FESTIVAL

Kite flying, games, vendors, and entertainment!

This event is the perfect opportunity to soak in some sunshine and do some good.

All proceeds from this festival are given to the Washington County School District to support literacy programs.

WHEN: April 18, 2020

HOW MUCH: Parking and admission are both free

5. SNOW CANYON STATE PARK

Snow Canyon can be super hot in Summer, so Spring is a wonderful time to visit.

Plus, the big summer crowds haven't come around yet, so the trails aren't overly-crowded.

Snow Canyon staff is always hosting expert-led talks, hikes, and activities. Click here to see their events page.
